First week of Beijing
The amount of work I got in my office is even less than what I expected. I start to get confused as to what my goals here are, especially when all other interns are just having a get-together-every-night life here. To improve my Putonghua is definitely one, but I am yet to come up with another goal.

We went to 798, a modern art area in Beijing. I felt like I could apply what the owner of Kwai Fung told us- every painting is just like a movie and it is the directing that mainly matters. There was one or two paintings by Korean artists that struck me but then most of the pieces there were wrongly executed. Well the sense of art needs to be cultivated in the whole society, and it may be more difficult in a city with such a history. There were couples taking ‘wedding photos’ in front of warehouses with graffiti, which they might think very loft but I thought it all wrong.
Can Hong Kong do better than Beijing? Judging from the fashion trend in Hong Kong, Hong Kong artists may have a better sense of art, at least of modern art. But can the soil here cultivate creativity? and persistence amidst disapproval and poverty?

Ok, this is kind of weird but I just ran across this YouTube video: Keisha Tik Tok Lyrics

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

It’s still cloaked in camo, but the 2012 Hyundai Veloster is beginning to shed its winter skin before its big reveal early next year. Not only has it gone green in the process, but details on its passenger side dual doors and interior are coming into focus. As we’ve noted before, the Veloster (or possibly Tiburon) appears to share two different door designs - a traditional opening on the driver’s side and a smaller passenger door possibly accompanied by another rear access opening.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

It’s time to bring some answers to an ongoing internet debate. Can the .223 be used for deer hunting? Well here we go….. The short and easy answer is yes it can kill a deer. Is it the best round for deer hunting? Probly not, but that doesn’t mean it can’t or shouldn’t be used. The people arguing that a .223 shouldn’t be used for deer hunting are concerned that it won’t give the deer a quick clean kill. However, the majority of the people arguing this point have never used a .223 for deer hunting. Most of the hunters that do use a .223 think its completely fine. When it comes to clean kills, shot placement is much more important than caliber. The next question would be weather or not it’s legal in your state. I’ve hunted with a .223 in Hawaii and in California legally so I’d assume it’s ok for the majority of the states but of course you should double check. To hunt with a .223 in California you have to use a grain that shoots with high enough foot pounds. Plus, several companies are now producing rounds specifically for deer hunting for the .223. So the answer is Yes, a .223 can be used for deer hunting and can cleanly take it down if you put it in the right spot. If you’re buying a rifle specifically for deer hunting then I’d suggest a 300wsm or a 30-06. But if you want a fun gun for cheap target shooting that you can still use for hunting then a .223 will work.

Last week I was shooting my 280 Rem. at the range. Just wanted to use up some factory loads so I could use the cases to reload. I had my chronograph with me, and just for the heck of it, I decided to put some of the factory loads through to see what kinds of velocity they delivered. I never bothered doing this with factory loads in the past. I was shooting 140 grain Remington Core-Lokt bullets, nothing fancy. I shot the first bullet through the chrony, and couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the velocity, but there it was - 2902! My handloads are usually NOT hot. I usually get about 2800 f/s, but I never expected that kind of speed with factory loads out of my 22 inch barrel with this caliber. After firing 10 rounds of these factory laods, the average speed was 2894 f/s. Anyway, thought you might be interested to see what this cxaliber can do… even with factory loads. What a sweet rifle and caliber!

What are you using the reels for? In my opinion 30# braid is too small for offshore use. Typically if you topshot with 30# mono you would use 50-65#braid. I do not like the real tiny reels because you never know when you hook up that fish of a lifetime and you need some capacity. If you are jigging I would look into the JX model and if you are kitefishing perhaps the LX model. You don’t need two speeds for 30# test fishing. I would get the 4.6 gear ratio for bait fishing/light trolling and the 6.0 if you are butterfly jigging. I am sure others will chime in with their opinions.
